Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid tribute to pioneering social reformer, scholar, and anti-caste philosopher Pandit Iyothee Thass on his birth anniversary, highlighting his seminal role in forging modern Dravidian and egalitarian consciousness. Stalin described Iyothee Thass as a luminous trailblazer who transformed the terms Tamizhan and Dravidian into potent political identities of self-respect, emancipation, and radical social equality in late nineteenth-century Tamil society.
The Chief Minister recalled that Pandit Iyothee Thass spearheaded early struggles for universal education, land rights, and Buddhist egalitarian philosophy among marginalized communities long before mainstream nationalist movements addressed systemic caste discrimination. By publishing the journal Oru Paisa Tamizhan and establishing institutions for subaltern empowerment, Iyothee Thass laid the intellectual and organizational foundations upon which the Justice Party and subsequent Dravidian movements flourished.
Stalin urged citizens to renew their dedication to dismantling social hierarchies, combating discrimination, and advancing inclusive developmental policies. He emphasized that the Dravidian Model government remains firmly guided by Iyothee Thass's vision of an enlightened society where social justice, human dignity, and educational opportunities are guaranteed without distinction to every single citizen across Tamil Nadu.
