Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for making derogatory remarks against Tamils during parliamentary election rallies in Odisha. Stalin alleged that once voting concluded in Tamil Nadu, the Prime Minister discarded his public display of affection for Tamil culture and language, resorting instead to regional stereotyping and communal prejudice by insinuating that Tamils were misappropriating temple wealth at the Puri Jagannath temple.
The Chief Minister asserted that it is unbecoming of a sitting Prime Minister to incite hostility between linguistic communities and pit states against each other for electoral considerations. Stalin noted that promoting animosity against a linguistic group damages national integration, constitutional fraternity, and mutual respect among India's diverse populations. He demanded that the Prime Minister conduct himself with dignity appropriate to his constitutional office.
Stalin observed that desperate attempts to polarize voters in northern and eastern states revealed the ruling coalition's growing anxiety over nationwide electoral setbacks. He affirmed that the people of Tamil Nadu, known for their cultural pride and national contributions, would not tolerate insulting insinuations aimed at gaining partisan political advantage.
