Trends emerging from the latest #NEET results have once again vindicated our principled opposition to the exam.

Issues such as question paper leaks, clustering of toppers at specific centres, and award of marks, which are mathematically impossible, under the guise of grace marks highlight the pitfalls of the current Union Government’s centralisation.

These events emphasise the need to restore the preeminence State governments' and school education system's role in determining criteria for professional course selection.

We reiterate:

* NEET and other entrance examinations are anti-poor. * They undermine federal polity. * They are against social justice. * They impact the availability of doctors in deserving areas.

Let’s join hands to eradicate this malady. That day is not far!

Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin affirmed that emerging irregularities in the latest National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test results have unequivocally validated Tamil Nadu's consistent ideological resistance against the centralized examination system. Stalin pointed out that recurring allegations of question paper leaks, suspicious clustering of perfect scores at specific exam centers, and mathematically unviable grace mark awards reflect the inherent vulnerabilities of a hyper-centralized selection process managed by the Union government's testing bureaucracy.

Stalin reiterated four fundamental arguments against centralized entrance exams: they are intrinsically anti-poor, subversive of federal constitutional arrangements, hostile to social justice principles, and detrimental to balanced healthcare staffing in medically underserved rural regions. He emphasized that these systemic breakdowns underline the urgent necessity of restoring state governments' preeminent authority in establishing admission criteria and re-establishing high school education as the primary metric for professional career selection.

The Chief Minister appealed to democratic forces, students, and state administrations across India to join hands in dismantling the NEET framework. Stalin expressed confidence that growing national awareness will dismantle the commercialized testing apparatus, ensuring an equitable, decentralized, and meritocratic medical admission process for all Indian students.
