Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presented the prestigious state Avvaiyar Award to celebrated Dalit feminist author Bama, recognizing her seminal contributions to Tamil literature and social emancipation. Stalin noted that a society's progressive character is measured by how reverently it honors independent writers who chronicle the lived experiences, struggles, and resilience of marginalized communities. He expressed deep personal joy in presenting the award, which had been briefly delayed due to the author's health constraints.
The Chief Minister observed that Bama's groundbreaking literary oeuvre, including acclaimed autobiographical novels such as Karukku and Sangati, gave authentic linguistic expression to Dalit women's experiences and dismantled conventional caste-bound narrative traditions. Stalin emphasized that state recognition of rebellious, socially conscious writers reaffirms the Dravidian movement's commitment to cultural democracy, encouraging emerging generations of women authors to enter the literary world with fearlessness and ideological clarity.
Stalin extended his warmest wishes for Bama's long health and creative vigor, urging her to continue penning inspiring literary works. He reiterated that the Dravidian Model governance will continually patronize progressive writers whose art challenges social inequality and expands democratic values.
