Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin highlighted the publication of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's seminal literary work on Saint Ramanujar, brought out through the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department under Minister P.K. Sekarbabu. Written during the final years of Karunanidhi's life, the book portrays the eleventh-century Vaishnavite philosopher as a revolutionary saint who challenged orthodox caste hierarchies by welcoming oppressed communities into temples and conferring egalitarian titles to safeguard human dignity.
Stalin observed that Karunanidhi's writings illuminate Ramanujar's radical egalitarianism, such as reciting sacred Tamil hymns inside temple sanctums and defying orthodoxy to share liberating spiritual mantras with ordinary working people. The Chief Minister noted that religious traditions must serve to eradicate entrenched disparities and foster universal human fraternity rather than legitimizing discrimination or rigid caste barriers in everyday life.
The publication forms part of the government's cultural initiative to make classic philosophical texts accessible to the wider public across the state. Stalin expressed hope that Ramanujar's compassionate life, as interpreted through Karunanidhi's evocative prose, will inspire modern society to dismantle sectarian prejudice and uphold social harmony across Tamil Nadu.
