Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin met with residents of Sivaganga district who expressed their gratitude following the peaceful and successful conduct of the Kandadevi Swarnamoortheeshwarar temple car festival, an event that had remained suspended for eighteen years due to caste disputes. Stalin noted that the Dravidian Model government succeeded in resolving longstanding social tensions by facilitating inclusive dialogue and guaranteeing that members of all communities pulled the temple car together with equal dignity.
Reflecting on the milestone, Stalin invoked the historic achievement of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, who famously facilitated the rolling of the long-immobile Tiruvarur temple car decades earlier. Stalin emphasized that real social progress is achieved not by excluding marginalized sections from public religious traditions, but by enforcing constitutional equality and ensuring that sacred public spaces remain accessible to every citizen regardless of caste hierarchy.
The Chief Minister commended the district administration, police officials, and local community elders for cooperating to restore communal harmony in Kandadevi. Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu's social fabric grows stronger when historical discrimination is replaced with mutual respect and shared cultural celebration.
