Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin extended congratulations to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on his appointment as the Leader of the Opposition in the eighteenth Lok Sabha. Welcoming Gandhi to the constitutional role on behalf of the INDIA alliance, Stalin expressed confidence that his presence at the parliamentary podium would amplify the collective aspirations of ordinary citizens and ensure vigorous legislative accountability.

Stalin noted that having a determined Leader of the Opposition in the lower house is critical for restoring balance to parliamentary proceedings following a decade of unchecked treasury domination. He pointed out that the 2024 general election outcome dismantled the ruling party's absolute majority, creating an environment where regional grievances, state rights, and economic distress can no longer be bypassed or silenced by executive decrees.

The DMK leader emphasized that coalition unity remains the foundation for checking central authoritarianism and safeguarding democratic rights. Stalin affirmed that the DMK parliamentary group will work closely with Gandhi and allied parties to defend secularism, demand fair financial devolution for southern states, and protect the constitutional ideals of justice, liberty, and institutional independence.
