Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced the expansion of the flagship Makkaludan Muthalvar doorstep governance scheme into rural panchayats across all districts starting July 11, 2024. Stalin noted that during its initial urban phase, the decentralized public outreach initiative successfully resolved 8.74 lakh citizen petitions, providing immediate administrative relief regarding basic civic amenities, revenue documentation, electricity connections, and welfare entitlements.
To ensure comprehensive grassroots implementation, the Chief Minister addressed a formal communication to all elected local representatives, including village panchayat presidents, legislators, and parliamentarians, urging their active participation in the village-level outreach camps. Stalin emphasized that public service delivery must be completely decentralized, sparing rural families the hardship of traveling to distant taluk or district headquarters to resolve everyday administrative challenges.
Stalin called upon rural citizens to actively utilize the dedicated grievance camps in their respective village clusters. By mandating multi-departmental coordination and digital tracking with strict thirty-day resolution timelines, the government ensures transparent and time-bound delivery of citizen services. Stalin affirmed that bringing governance directly to village doorsteps embodies the core philosophy of the Dravidian Model of inclusive and participatory administration.
