Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin convened a high-level official meeting in Chennai, deciding to introduce state-specific legislative amendments to the three new Union criminal laws enacted without state consultation. Pointing out widespread public protests and legal concerns across the country, Stalin noted that the central government implemented the statutes without consulting federated states or permitting adequate parliamentary scrutiny.
To formulate comprehensive amendments tailored to protect civil liberties and regional legal requirements, the Chief Minister announced the appointment of an expert committee headed by a retired High Court judge. Stalin invited legal professionals, bar associations, human rights advocates, and concerned citizens to submit their suggestions and critiques directly to the panel to ensure inclusive democratic input into the reform process.
Stalin emphasized that criminal jurisprudence touches the fundamental freedoms and constitutional rights of every citizen. He reiterated that the DMK and the Tamil Nadu government will vigorously resist unilateral central legislation that encroaches upon state authority or dilutes procedural safeguards. Stalin reaffirmed that his administration remains steadfastly committed to upholding constitutional federalism, personal liberty, and transparent legal protections through thoughtful state-level legislative remedies.
