Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted an unannounced inspection of an Amma Canteen in Teynampet, Chennai, directly reviewing food quality and inquiring about working conditions with staff members. Dismissing past political rumors that his government would shutter the low-cost dining network, Stalin announced an allocation of twenty-one crore rupees to modernize and refurbish municipal canteens across Chennai.
Under the new financial package, seven crore rupees is designated for purchasing modern stainless steel utensils and specialized cooking machinery, while fourteen crore rupees will fund extensive civil renovations and structural improvements. Stalin noted that over the past three years, the Dravidian Model government has expended more than 450 crore rupees on the canteen network, reliably feeding over one lakh urban workers, students, and low-income residents daily.
The Chief Minister stressed that his administration operates with an inclusive vision of governance that prioritizes hunger eradication and social security above partisan considerations. By systematically upgrading kitchen hygiene, replacing degraded apparatus, and securing dependable municipal funding, the government safeguards nutritious dining for vulnerable urban populations. Stalin reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu will consistently protect and fortify vital community welfare programs that serve common working people.
