Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin convened a high-level review meeting at the Secretariat in Chennai to coordinate comprehensive disaster management and relief operations in the mountainous Nilgiris district, which experienced relentless monsoon rainfall. Over the preceding three days, Stalin had been issuing operational directives telephonically to the district monitoring minister, local Member of Parliament, and the district collector.
With torrential rains persisting across hilly slopes, the Chief Minister reviewed precautionary measures taken to prevent landslips, clear fallen trees along ghat roads, and maintain unhindered vehicular transit. Specialized earth-moving machinery, state disaster response teams, and emergency medical personnel were positioned along high-risk hill stretches to handle sudden slope collapses promptly.
Stalin directed district authorities to accommodate families living near vulnerable riverbanks and steep slopes in well-equipped relief shelters providing warm meals, clean drinking water, and essential medicines. He also ordered round-the-clock monitoring of reservoir levels and instructed officials to assess crop damage for prompt compensation distribution.
The Chief Minister stressed that proactive governance and continuous monitoring prevent loss of human lives during severe hill station weather disasters. Stalin assured residents of the Nilgiris that the state government is fully vigilant and committed to safeguarding their lives and property.
