Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presented a focused list of crucial infrastructure expectations for Tamil Nadu ahead of the Union Budget 2024 presentation in Parliament, calling on the central government to fulfill the genuine developmental aspirations of the state's people. The priority requests centered on urgent financial approvals for mass rapid transit systems and highway connectivity corridors.
At the forefront of the demands was the long-pending release of the Union government's fifty percent equity share for the 63,246 crore rupee Chennai Metro Rail Phase Two project, which has languished without central cabinet sanction for three consecutive years. Stalin also sought formal clearance and budgetary allocations for proposed metro rail networks in Coimbatore and Madurai to cater to expanding urban commuter populations.
Additionally, the Chief Minister demanded approvals for the elevated expressway between Tambaram and Chengalpattu, adequate funding for ongoing railway doubling and electrification works, income tax relief for middle-class families, and higher expenditure caps for rural housing programs.
Stalin expressed hope that the Union government would rise above partisan considerations and deliver equitable fiscal justice to Tamil Nadu. He reiterated that modern transit infrastructure in major manufacturing hubs directly strengthens India's overall economic competitiveness.
