Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly criticized Union Budget 2024 presented in Parliament, highlighting the peaceful protest staged by Members of Parliament from the INDIA bloc outside Parliament House against the partisan neglect of multiple Indian states. Stalin directly addressed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reminding him of his post-election pledge to prioritize the nation's development beyond partisan lines.

The Chief Minister asserted that the budget was crafted exclusively to preserve coalition survival rather than advance the comprehensive economic welfare of the Indian republic. He pointed out that while states ruled by crucial coalition allies received substantial announcements, major industrial and contributing states like Tamil Nadu were entirely overlooked in major infrastructure grants and disaster relief.

Stalin advised the Prime Minister to govern impartially on behalf of all citizens rather than maintaining a vengeful posture toward states where the BJP suffered electoral defeat. He warned that conducting national administration based on political favoritism and regional retribution will inevitably isolate the Union Government from progressive federal states.

The Chief Minister declared that Tamil Nadu will continue organizing opposition forces to challenge this discriminatory fiscal treatment. Stalin reiterated that true national development requires balanced, equitable resource distribution across all states.
