Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin affirmed that on the day he was scheduled to attend the NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi, he chose instead to stand before the court of the people, protesting central neglect of Tamil Nadu. Stalin boycotted the governing council session chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest the Union Budget's complete omission of state infrastructure demands.
The Chief Minister pointed out that while the state contributes substantially to central tax collections, Union Budget 2024 allocated zero funding for vital state infrastructure, including Chennai Metro Rail Phase Two and disaster relief grants. He declared that attending high-level deliberations while legitimate state rights are flagrantly denied compromises the self-respect of Tamil Nadu's citizens.
Stalin emphasized that the DMK has consistently chosen democratic resistance over quiet acquiescence whenever regional interests are threatened by central apathy. By taking the issue directly to the people, the administration seeks to expose the Union Government's discriminatory federal policies and fiscal imbalances.
The Chief Minister asserted that state autonomy and fiscal fairness are non-negotiable constitutional entitlements. Stalin pledged that Tamil Nadu will continue resisting partisan central allocations.
