Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that veteran Gandhian leader, celebrated Tamil orator, and former parliamentarian Kumari Ananthan has been chosen for the prestigious Thagaisal Thamizhar Award for the year 2024. The distinguished state honor, instituted by the DMK administration, recognizes eminent personalities who have made monumental, lifelong contributions to the Tamil language, public welfare, and national progress.

Stalin stated that he will personally confer the award—carrying a citation and a cash prize of ten lakh rupees—on Kumari Ananthan during the official Independence Day celebrations in Chennai. Kumari Ananthan dedicated seven decades to public life, participating in historic freedom movements, championing Gandhian principles, and propagating classical Tamil literature across the country.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Ananthan's unblemished political career, characterized by humility, intellectual depth, and dedication to social harmony, serves as an inspiration for future generations of public servants. Despite ideological differences between political parties, the state honors individuals whose collective legacy enriches Tamil identity and democratic values.

Stalin affirmed that recognizing such selfless luminaries is a matter of profound pride for the state. He extended his warmest congratulations to Kumari Ananthan and his family on this well-deserved recognition.
