Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin led an anti-drug awareness campaign in Chennai, administering a public pledge to protect youth from substance abuse and illicit trafficking. The state-wide initiative engaged school and college students, teachers, parents, and civic volunteers in committing to reject narcotics and report illicit drug networks.

Stalin called upon parents, educational institutions, and civil society to join hands with law enforcement agencies to achieve the goal of a Drug-Free Tamil Nadu. He stressed that protecting the physical and mental well-being of young citizens is essential for preserving the demographic dividend and social stability of the state.

The Chief Minister instructed police and excise departments to enforce zero-tolerance measures against drug peddlers, especially near academic campuses and transport hubs across all districts. Special intelligence units and border check-posts have intensified surveillance to intercept contraband entering Tamil Nadu from other regions.

Stalin affirmed that the government couples strict legal enforcement with institutional rehabilitation, counselling, and campus awareness campaigns. He urged students to channel their energy into sports, creative arts, and academic excellence, rejecting dangerous substances and building productive futures.
