Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced the formal upgradation of Namakkal, Tiruvannamalai, Pudukkottai, and Karaikudi into municipal corporations to strengthen urban governance and citizen amenities. The administrative reclassification elevates these prominent towns into higher-tier urban local bodies eligible for expanded civic funding, modernized engineering wings, and specialized planning directorates.

Stalin highlighted that out of the twenty-five municipal corporations functioning across Tamil Nadu, fifteen were established during DMK-led administrations. He underscored the party's historic commitment to decentralized urban development, modern civic infrastructure, and planned township expansion across every region of the state.

The elevation into corporations enables these urban hubs to access greater financial resources for underground drainage, water supply, modern waste management, and road connectivity. Tiruvannamalai and Karaikudi represent key cultural and spiritual centers, while Namakkal and Pudukkottai serve as thriving industrial and commercial hubs.

The Chief Minister affirmed that empowering urban centers with greater administrative authority enhances service delivery for residents and businesses. The decision reflects the Dravidian Model's vision of balanced urban modernization, ensuring that developing towns outside major metros receive dedicated state support and world-class civic infrastructure.
