Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin celebrated the formal inauguration of the long-pending Athikadavu-Avinashi project, underlining its immense hydrological significance in recharging rural groundwater aquifers across western Tamil Nadu. Stalin explained that the flagship irrigation engineering initiative pumps surplus floodwaters through an intricate underground pipeline network to fill 1,045 water bodies, including lakes, ponds, and check dams, spanning Erode, Tiruppur, and Coimbatore districts.
The Chief Minister pointed out that previous administrative lethargy had stalled the project for decades until the Dravidian Model government prioritized work execution, allocating revised administrative funds to overcome engineering bottlenecks. The resulting groundwater replenishment provides dependable irrigation for over 24,000 acres of agricultural farmlands while securing sustainable drinking water supplies for hundreds of surrounding rural village habitations.
Stalin stated that revitalizing traditional water storage bodies and protecting farming livelihoods remain central commitments of his administration. He commended the water resources department engineers and technical staff for completing this monumental hydraulic venture. The Chief Minister affirmed that his government will continue executing innovative water conservation projects, ensuring agricultural prosperity and environmental resilience across every farming region of Tamil Nadu.
