இந்தத் திட்டத்துக்கான பணிகள் 2019-இல் தொடங்கப்பட்டிருந்தாலும், நாம் ஆட்சிப் பொறுப்பேற்ற பிறகுதான், இத்திட்டத்தை நிறைவேற்றிட உறுதிபூண்டு, 1,916.41 கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்பீட்டில் திருத்திய நிர்வாக ஒப்புதல் வழங்கப்பட்டுப் பணிகள் விரைவு படுத்தப்பட்டன.
ஈரோடு, திருப்பூர், கோவை மாவட்ட வேளாண் பெருங்குடி மக்களின் வாழ்வுக்கு வளம் சேர்க்கும் இந்தத் திட்டத்தை இன்று தொடங்கி வைத்ததில் மகிழ்ச்சியடைகிறேன்!
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially commissioned the historic Athikadavu-Avinashi Groundwater Recharge and Drinking Water Scheme, fulfilling a cherished five-decade aspiration of farmers and rural communities across Erode, Tiruppur, and Coimbatore districts. Stalin recalled that former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi first conceptualized the water project in 1972, though successive political regimes left it languishing until the DMK government granted revised administrative sanction worth 1,916.41 crore rupees to expedite completion.
The Chief Minister noted that during his 2016 visit to support local farmers undertaking an indefinite fast, he gave his word that the project would be realized once the DMK returned to power in the state. Under the completed scheme, surplus floodwaters from the Bhavani River are pumped across 1,045 water bodies, replenishing drying agricultural aquifers, boosting borewell levels, and resolving persistent irrigation and drinking water scarcity.
Stalin emphasized that safeguarding farmer welfare and agricultural water security remains the utmost priority of the Dravidian Model governance framework. He expressed immense emotional fulfillment upon delivering on his sacred promise to the farming families of western Tamil Nadu, dedicating the transformative project to agricultural prosperity and rural well-being.
