Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presided over a momentous ceremonial function in Chennai celebrating the official release of the special commemorative hundred-rupee coin marking the centenary of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh formally unveiled the minted coin, which features Karunanidhi's portrait along with the historic inscription 'Tamil Vellum', celebrating his multifaceted contributions to progressive literature, cinema, journalism, and social reform.

The grand gathering brought together distinguished political leaders from across diverse party lines, senior Union and state ministers, eminent judges, and prominent cultural figures from across India. Stalin emphasized that the centenary coin reflects national recognition of Karunanidhi's tireless efforts in constructing modern Tamil Nadu's industrial, educational, and welfare foundations over fifty years of political leadership.

The Chief Minister noted that Karunanidhi's lifelong dedication to self-respect, backward classes reservation, linguistic equality, and state autonomy shaped India's modern democratic landscape and federal discourse.
