Hon'ble @AshwiniVaishnaw, we are deeply concerned about the significant reduction of ₹674.8 cr for new line projects and ₹285.64 cr for doubling projects in Southern Railways as per the 2024-25 budget.

This will severely impact vital projects in Tamil Nadu. I urge your immediate intervention to ensure adequate funds and prevent delays in these crucial developments.

Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and strong condemnation over the Union BJP Government's drastic reduction in budgetary allocations for railway infrastructure development in Tamil Nadu. Stalin questioned whether the Union Government is deliberately penalizing the state following the recent general election results, asserting that neglecting public welfare and transport modernization due to partisan political spite is undemocratic and unjust.

The Chief Minister urged Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to intervene immediately, restore the curtailed funds, and fast-track essential railway projects across the state. Stalin pointed out that Tamil Nadu generates substantial railway passenger and freight revenue for the Union exchequer, making adequate capital reinvestment into double-tracking, passenger amenities, and safety upgrades a constitutional and moral duty.

Stalin highlighted that halting key rail links causes severe hardship to daily commuters, trade logistics, and regional economic connectivity. He affirmed that the DMK government will persistently advocate for Tamil Nadu's fair share of infrastructure funding under cooperative federalism principles. The Chief Minister demanded that the Union administration abandon its discriminatory financial treatment and release required railway project funds without delay.
