Deeply shocked by media reports of a BJP leader’s threat that @RahulGandhi ‘will meet the same fate as his grandmother,’ and a Shinde Sena MLA’s bounty for cutting his tongue, along with other intimidating threats.
My brother Rahul Gandhi’s charisma and growing public support have clearly unsettled many, leading to such vile acts of intimidation.
The Union government must act swiftly to ensure protection for the Leader of the Opposition and reaffirm that intimidation and violence have no place in our democracy.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and indignation over public threats of physical violence issued against Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, by leaders belonging to the ruling alliance. Stalin cited alarming media reports of a BJP politician warning that Gandhi would meet the same fate as his grandmother, alongside a bounty announced by an allied legislator for physically harming the opposition leader.
The Chief Minister asserted that Rahul Gandhi's undeniable mass appeal, charismatic leadership, and expanding nationwide public support have severely rattled the ruling establishment, driving political adversaries to resort to brazen acts of intimidation. Stalin emphasized that such toxic threats reflect desperation and constitute a severe assault on democratic norms, civilized parliamentary debate, and the rule of law.
Stalin called upon the Union Government to initiate immediate, uncompromising criminal action against individuals making violent threats and ensure comprehensive security protection for the constitutional office of the Leader of the Opposition. He underscored that fear, physical intimidation, and violent incitement have no legitimate place in a democratic republic governed by constitutional values.
