Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed an extensive national press conference in New Delhi following his high-level meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Stalin briefed media representatives on the comprehensive memorandum of crucial state demands submitted to the Union leadership, focusing on the release of long-pending central financial transfers and development assistance owed to Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister explained that he explicitly urged the Prime Minister to approve and release central equity funding for Chennai Metro Rail Phase 2 without further delay, emphasizing that procedural bottlenecks should not hinder vital public transit infrastructure. He reiterated Tamil Nadu's principled objection to linking Samagra Shiksha education funds with the mandatory acceptance of the National Education Policy, affirming that the state will never abandon its historic two-language curriculum.
Stalin also highlighted his appeal for immediate diplomatic measures through the Ministry of External Affairs to halt the persistent detention of Tamil Nadu fishermen by Sri Lankan naval forces. He emphasized that cooperative federalism requires the Union Government to respect regional autonomy and treat non-BJP-ruled states with complete parity, institutional fairness, and fiscal justice.
