Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the Union Cabinet's formal approval of the second phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project. Stalin recalled that during his recent official meeting with the Prime Minister in New Delhi, he had strongly urged the central government to sanction its equity share and central financial assistance for the crucial 118.9-kilometer urban transit corridor.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the Union approval resolves a long-pending demand of the people of Tamil Nadu, providing essential funding stability for one of the largest mass rapid transit developments in the country. He noted that Phase Two will connect key industrial, information technology, and residential corridors across three new routes, dramatically easing traffic congestion and reducing vehicular carbon emissions.
