Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conferred the prestigious Kalaignar Memorial Film Industry Veteran Awards for 2023 on legendary playback singer P. Susheela and acclaimed poet and lyricist Mu. Metha at a ceremonial function in Chennai. Stalin observed that former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi revolutionized Tamil cinema by using powerful dialogues and socially conscious themes to ignite mass political awakening and eradicate regressive traditions.
The Chief Minister expressed deep joy in honoring P. Susheela, celebrated as the Nightingale of South India, whose melodious voice and emotive singing have captivated millions of listeners across multiple languages for seven decades. He similarly commended poet Mu. Metha for his lyrical elegance, revolutionary verses, and enduring contributions to modern Tamil literature and progressive cinema.
Stalin affirmed that instituting state cultural awards in Kalaignar's name preserves the memory of artists who dedicated their artistic careers to enriching Tamil culture and social consciousness. He reiterated that the Dravidian Model government will continuously honor pioneering cultural stalwarts and support creative communities, ensuring that Tamil Nadu's rich cinematic, musical, and literary heritage continues to flourish with institutional backing for future generations.
