Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that all Amma Canteens across Chennai would provide complimentary meals for two consecutive days to assist daily wage earners and impoverished residents affected by intense northeast monsoon showers. The measure aimed to ensure food security for economically vulnerable populations while municipal workers carried out extensive drainage and dewatering operations.
Stalin reviewed ongoing rescue and relief works undertaken by the Greater Chennai Corporation in inundated low-lying neighborhoods. Displaced families were shifted to designated municipal relief centers, where administrative teams distributed warm meals, potable drinking water, medical kits, and sanitation supplies under constant supervision.
The Chief Minister underscored that public welfare institutions must respond proactively during climate emergencies, ensuring that vulnerable communities face no deprivation. He instructed ward officials to maintain hygienic conditions in relief camps and prepare emergency health squads to prevent waterborne illnesses. Stalin reaffirmed that the state government is deploying all available resources to assist displaced families, restore civic connectivity, and safeguard public welfare throughout the monsoon emergency. He emphasized that sustained nutritional support protects low-income citizens from economic hardship caused by adverse weather patterns.
