Editorial context

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin demanded that the Union Government immediately recall Governor R.N. Ravi, asserting that his conduct violates Tamil Nadu law and insults the linguistic sentiments of the state. Stalin's demand followed the singing of the Tamil Thai Vazhthu at a Doordarshan Chennai event where the official line celebrating the Dravidian land was deliberately excised in the Governor's presence.

Stalin stated that anyone who disregards statutory procedures and constitutional proprieties is unfit to occupy gubernatorial office. He observed that promoting Hindi Month in non-Hindi speaking regions while diminishing local linguistic pride undermines national unity and trivializes India's diverse federal structure. The Chief Minister pointedly asked whether individuals allergic to the word Dravidam would similarly demand its removal from the Indian National Anthem penned by Rabindranath Tagore.

Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu's cultural dignity and regional autonomy cannot be undermined by politically motivated ideological actions. He declared that the state government and the people will resolutely resist attempts to impose linguistic hegemony, urging the central government to withdraw the Governor to restore constitutional propriety and uphold democratic decorum between the state and Union governments.
