DMK President and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presided over the solemn portrait unveiling and memorial tribute ceremony for veteran journalist, film producer, and writer Murasoli Selvam at Kalaignar Arangam in Anna Arivalayam, Chennai. Paying homage to Selvam's multifaceted cultural and journalistic contributions, Stalin described him as a staunch ideologue who safeguarded party principles through decades of political editorial work.
During his memorial address, Stalin announced that a dedicated charitable trust would soon be established in memory of Murasoli Selvam. The proposed trust will institute an annual cultural award to honor outstanding writers, researchers, and creators contributing to Dravidian literature and social philosophy. The prestigious honor will be formally conferred every year during the DMK's flagship Mupperum Vizha celebrations.
Stalin recalled Selvam's steadfast journalistic courage during the Emergency and subsequent political struggles, highlighting how his incisive writing guided party cadres through challenging eras. The Chief Minister affirmed that recognizing contemporary progressive authors through the new trust will encourage vital intellectual inquiry and preserve the literary traditions of the Dravidian movement for future generations. The administration continues to nurture independent journalism and vibrant intellectual dialogue across the state.
