Had the pleasure of meeting Hon'ble @mlkhattar to discuss the progress of Chennai Metro Rail's Phase-II project. Expressed our gratitude to the Union Government for accepting my request and approving the 118.9 km expansion and briefed about our efforts towards its speedy implementation.
I also sought the Union Government's support in funding the Coimbatore and Madurai Metro Rail projects.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin met Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi to review the implementation of Chennai Metro Rail Phase Two. Stalin expressed gratitude to the Union Government for approving the 118.9-kilometer expansion project following his earlier representations and briefed the minister on ongoing construction milestones achieved by the state execution team.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the comprehensive Phase Two corridor will dramatically enhance urban mass transit across Chennai, connecting vital suburban clusters with commercial hubs and decongesting major traffic corridors. He affirmed that the state government is pursuing accelerated execution schedules to ensure prompt delivery of public transit infrastructure for commuters.
During the bilateral meeting, Stalin also formally sought the Union Government's financial participation and equity support for proposed metro rail projects in Coimbatore and Madurai. He stressed that rapid industrialization and population growth in western and southern Tamil Nadu necessitate modern mass rapid transit systems to drive sustainable economic growth, improve urban livability, and reduce vehicular pollution in Tier-2 urban regions and create substantial regional employment opportunities across the state.
