Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a suite of transformative infrastructure projects, commissioning higher education buildings constructed at a cost of 156.05 crore rupees alongside 3,268 modern urban tenements built by the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board valued at 426.32 crore rupees. The housing developments provide dignified, permanent multi-story residences equipped with water, electricity, and community halls for urban slum dwellers.
Concurrently, Stalin launched major ecological restoration and lakefront improvement initiatives executed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority across Perumbakkam, Mudichur, Ayanambakkam, Velachery, and Sikkanan lakes. These ecological projects encompass desilting water bodies, strengthening embankments, creating biodiverse green buffer zones, and constructing public walking paths and open-air recreational plazas to boost Chennai's flood resilience.
The Chief Minister emphasized that sustainable urban planning must harmoniously blend affordable social housing, educational access, and environmental conservation. He noted that revitalizing metropolitan water bodies preserves groundwater aquifers and protects surrounding residential neighborhoods from recurring monsoon floods. Stalin reaffirmed his government's resolve to continue building climate-resilient urban infrastructure while providing safe, dignified living conditions for economically vulnerable urban families statewide across all major regional urban conglomerates.
