Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid reverent homage to the brave linguistic martyrs on Border Martyrs Day (Ellai Poratta Thiyagigal Naal), observed annually on November 1. Stalin recalled the monumental sacrifices, mass protests, and enduring struggles waged across both northern and southern frontiers during the mid-twentieth century to safeguard Tamil Nadu's geographic boundaries and integrate historic Tamil-speaking regions into the state.
The Chief Minister honored legendary leaders including Silambu Selvar Ma. Po. Sivagnanam, Marshal A. Nesamony, and countless grassroots martyrs who withstood state repression, police firing, and prolonged imprisonment to defend the linguistic dignity of Tamil people. He highlighted that their heroic agitation ensured that vital regions, including Madras in the north and Kanyakumari in the south, remained integral components of Tamil Nadu.
Stalin affirmed that remembering these historic border struggles is vital to instilling historical consciousness and linguistic pride among contemporary generations. He reiterated the DMK administration's steadfast commitment to honoring border fighters and their families through dedicated state pensions, medical welfare, and memorial institutions, pledging that Tamil Nadu will forever defend its territorial integrity, federal autonomy, and linguistic sovereignty.
