Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted an on-site field inspection in Virudhunagar district, interacting directly with industrial workers employed in local fireworks manufacturing units. The fireworks manufacturing sector in Virudhunagar and surrounding regions employs more than two lakh workers, representing the economic backbone of southern Tamil Nadu while facing complex occupational and regulatory challenges.
During his interactions, Stalin listened attentively to the workforce regarding wage security, occupational safety protocols, medical welfare benefits, and social security coverage. He discussed statutory safety norms with factory management and industrial safety inspectors, emphasizing that stringent preventive measures and modern production standards must be enforced to prevent tragic industrial accidents and safeguard worker lives.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the state government is committed to supporting the fireworks cottage industry against regulatory bottlenecks while aggressively upgrading occupational safety mechanisms. He instructed district officials to conduct regular safety audits, organize training programs in safe chemical handling, and expand specialized burn care medical facilities. Stalin reiterated that protecting the livelihoods and physical safety of fireworks laborers remains a paramount commitment of his administration and state labor authorities.
