Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and condemned the horrific knife attack on Dr. Balaji, an oncologist serving at the Kalaignar Centenary Super Specialty Hospital in Guindy, Chennai. The doctor was assaulted inside his consultation chamber by a family member of a cancer patient. Stalin confirmed that law enforcement officers apprehended the perpetrator immediately, registering serious criminal charges.

The Chief Minister directed the state medical team to provide the highest standard of specialized intensive medical treatment to Dr. Balaji, assuring his family and the medical fraternity that the government is closely monitoring his clinical recovery. He emphasized that acts of violence against medical professionals who dedicate their lives to treating the sick are totally unacceptable and will be dealt with severely under the law.

Stalin ordered senior police officials and health administrators to conduct an immediate comprehensive security review of all government medical colleges and tertiary hospitals across Tamil Nadu. He instructed authorities to deploy metal detectors, install advanced surveillance cameras, and augment security personnel to safeguard doctors and healthcare workers, affirming that their protection remains an absolute governmental priority.
