Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly urged the Union government to immediately cancel the tungsten mining rights awarded in Madurai district, declaring unequivocally that the state government will never permit any commercial mining operations that imperil the ecological and cultural heritage of Arittapatti. Stalin called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and issue strict directives to the Ministry of Mines, insisting that the central administration must refrain from unilaterally auctioning mineral blocks without state concurrence.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Arittapatti is an ecologically sensitive bio-heritage site endowed with rich biodiversity, historical Jain caverns, and delicate water catchment ecosystems vital for local agriculture. Stalin pointed out that conducting mineral auctions in such fragile landscapes without consulting local communities or the state administration represents a severe violation of federal principles and conservation priorities.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian Model governance remains unyielding in its defense of Tamil Nadu's environmental assets, fertile farmlands, and cultural heritage sites. He assured farmers and environmental activists that his government will utilize all constitutional and legislative powers to protect Arittapatti from destructive industrial exploitation.
