Addressed the Tamil Nadu Governing Council on Climate Change today. Tamil Nadu is a pioneer in combating #ClimateChange with visionary initiatives like:
✅ Green Tamil Nadu Mission ✅ Wetland Restoration Initiatives ✅ Neithal Restoration Mission ✅ Net Zero by 2070 Roadmap
With 8.3 crore trees planted, 18 Ramsar sites, and ₹500 crore invested in rural water security, we are building a sustainable future.
Climate action isn’t just a priority—it’s Tamil Nadu’s responsibility to future generations! (1/3)

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presided over the high-level meeting of the Tamil Nadu Governing Council on Climate Change, reviewing the progress of pioneer ecological initiatives implemented across the state. Highlighting Tamil Nadu's proactive environmental leadership, Stalin enumerated landmark achievements, including the plantation of 8.3 crore saplings under the Green Tamil Nadu Mission and the successful notification of 18 Ramsar wetland sites, the highest for any Indian state.
The Chief Minister highlighted the state's targeted Neithal Restoration Mission for marine conservation and the comprehensive roadmap formulated to achieve Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2070. To strengthen rural climate resilience, the administration has invested 500 crore rupees toward water security, desilting irrigation tanks, and building rainwater recharge structures. Stalin emphasized that these systematic interventions protect farming communities from recurring drought cycles and unseasonal precipitation anomalies.
Stalin asserted that climate action is not merely a policy priority, but a profound generational duty to preserve the earth for the future. He instructed participating scientists, departmental secretaries, and international environmental advisors to accelerate project timelines, ensuring that Tamil Nadu continues to set national standards in sustainable ecological governance.
