Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin submitted a detailed memorandum to the inter-ministerial Union assessment team, requesting 6,675 crore rupees for emergency relief, rehabilitation, and long-term infrastructural restoration across districts ravaged by Cyclone Fengal. Stalin recalled that he had formally written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an immediate interim disbursement of 2,000 crore rupees from the National Disaster Response Fund to expedite relief operations.
The Chief Minister explained to the central delegation that while the Union government released Tamil Nadu's routine annual SDRF installment, the catastrophic scale of destruction caused by Cyclone Fengal far exceeds state reserve capacities. Torrential downpours triggered catastrophic inundation across 14 districts, destroying agricultural crops, wrecking rural roadways, disrupting power distribution networks, and submerging thousands of residential dwellings across northern and central districts.
Stalin urged the central visiting team to expedite its damage evaluation and recommend immediate financial allocations without administrative delays. He reiterated that disaster relief represents an urgent humanitarian necessity that transcends partisan politics, urging the Union government to disburse substantial funds immediately to rehabilitate affected farming and working-class families across Tamil Nadu.
