Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered a historic keynote address while inaugurating the newly constructed Periyar Memorial and Research Library in Vaikom, Kerala. Commemorating the hundredth anniversary of the epochal Vaikom temple street entry agitations, Stalin highlighted the transformative legacy of rationalist reformer Thanthai Periyar, who spearheaded the grassroots movement to dismantle entrenched caste discrimination across the temple precincts in 1924.
Addressing a distinguished gathering comprising leaders, historians, and social activists from both Tamil Nadu and Kerala, the Chief Minister underscored that Periyar's radical assertion of human equality laid the intellectual foundation for contemporary Dravidian Model governance. Stalin stated that public institutions must actively preserve radical social histories so that contemporary generations understand the long struggles that secured basic civil dignities for marginalized communities.
Stalin affirmed that the new memorial complex and specialized library will serve as an intellectual sanctuary for scholars studying anti-caste literature, regional reform movements, and secular philosophy. He reiterated that Tamil Nadu and Kerala share an unbreakable bond forged through common struggles for social justice, promising continued inter-state cooperation to protect democratic values against reactionary ideologies.
