A historic day in Vaikom, Kerala, as the people of Tamil Nadu and Kerala come together to proudly inaugurate the Periyar Memorial and Library.
I invite all visitors to Kerala to visit this iconic site, where Thanthai Periyar’s revolutionary ideals ignited societal transformation, enabling the oppressed to reclaim dignity and self-respect by breaking centuries-old barriers.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin dedicated the newly constructed Periyar Memorial and Library in Vaikom, Kerala, in the joint presence of leaders and citizens from both neighboring states. Commemorating the centenary of the epochal Vaikom temple entry movement, Stalin described the monument as an iconic cultural landmark that embodies the unyielding historical struggle against caste-based social oppression led by Thanthai Periyar in 1924.
The Chief Minister invited travelers, scholars, and researchers visiting Kerala to explore the memorial complex, where Periyar's revolutionary ideals catalyzed deep societal transformation and enabled marginalized citizens to reclaim basic self-respect. Built with modern civic amenities and an extensive research library, the facility preserves historical archives, rare photographs, and literary documentation detailing the prolonged agitations that shattered centuries-old caste restrictions in the region.
Stalin affirmed that establishing the memorial fulfills a sacred cultural duty, ensuring that future generations understand the enormous sacrifices that established equal civic rights across southern India. He emphasized that the memorial stands as an everlasting symbol of interstate brotherhood, rationalist thought, and the shared political commitment to upholding human dignity against reactionary dogma.
