#INDIA will resist the anti-federal & impractical “One nation one election” as it will push the country into the perils of unitary form of governance, killing its diversity and democracy in the process.
The Union BJP government seeks to push it with an ulterior motive of conducting a Presidential form of election, which is against the spirit of our Constitution. The proposed bill, if passed and implemented, will remove the legal checks and balances put in place in the form of periodic elections by the framers of our great Constitution to prevent the country from slipping into anarchy and totalitarianism. Also, State elections would lose their political significance and regional sentiments and diversity would be destroyed.
The BJP lacks majority to pass the critical legislation that threatens to alter India’s polity forever. Yet, a brazen attempt is being made to settle scores and deflect attention from the BJP’s failures to address core issues affecting the country’s progress. All the democratic forces must unite & fight tooth and nail against this abomination imposed in the garb of electoral reform, to save India, its diversity and the Constitution.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin voiced strong opposition against the proposed One Nation One Election framework, describing the Union government's legislative initiative as an anti-federal move that imperils Indian constitutional democracy. Stalin argued that imposing simultaneous national and state elections seeks to enforce an unconstitutional presidential system, severely undermining the diverse parliamentary structure envisioned by the framers of the Constitution.
The Chief Minister highlighted that periodic elections provide indispensable checks and balances that prevent centralized governance from drifting toward authoritarianism. If regional legislative assemblies are synchronized artificially with national parliamentary cycles, distinct state-level issues and regional aspirations would be completely overshadowed by centralized political campaigns. Stalin pointed out that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party lacks the requisite legislative majority to pass such structural constitutional alterations, characterizing the move as an attempt to divert public scrutiny away from economic challenges.
Stalin called upon all progressive and regional parties within the national opposition INDIA bloc to mobilize against this legislative measure. He reiterated that defending federal autonomy, linguistic diversity, and state self-respect remains a non-negotiable imperative for safeguarding democratic governance across the republic.
