Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced the expansion of the state's flagship temple Annadhanam scheme, extending full-day meal distribution to the historic Alagarkoil Kallazhagar Temple and Marudhamalai Subramaniya Swamy Temple. Under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department, the government provides full-day meals across eleven major shrines and single-meal services across 760 temples, serving approximately 3.36 crore devotees annually.
Alongside the temple meal expansion, the Chief Minister inaugurated a dedicated midday meal scheme covering 5,775 students enrolled in one school and four colleges administered by the Palani Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple. Stalin noted that providing nutritious food in temple-run educational institutions removes classroom hunger and supports students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The initiative demonstrates how traditional religious endowments can be mobilized for broader social welfare and educational empowerment.
Stalin commended HR&CE Minister P.K. Sekarbabu and department personnel for executing progressive administrative reforms with diligence. He emphasized that the Dravidian Model governance harmonizes cultural preservation with humanitarian service, ensuring that temple revenues directly serve public welfare. The government reiterated its commitment to expanding dignified community dining and educational support services statewide.
