Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly criticized Governor R.N. Ravi for walking out of the legislative assembly without delivering the customary address, characterizing the walkout as childish behavior that flagrantly violates established constitutional conventions. Stalin observed that under parliamentary democracy, the Governor is constitutionally bound to read the address approved by the elected Council of Ministers at the year's opening session. While the Governor previously omitted approved paragraphs, boycotting the speech altogether directly disrespects democratic norms.

The Chief Minister asserted that repeatedly insulting the people of Tamil Nadu, their elected government, and the historic century-old legislative assembly is completely unbecoming of the high office the Governor occupies. Titular heads cannot subordinate constitutional mandates to personal political preferences or partisan biases. Stalin posed a direct public question asking why an individual unwilling to fulfill basic constitutional duties should continue clinging to office, echoing widespread indignation felt by citizens across the state.

Stalin affirmed that the Tamil Nadu Assembly will never allow gubernatorial tantrums to undermine democratic procedures or halt public governance. The house proceeded with official business, reaffirming its sovereignty, legislative independence, and constitutional dignity.
