Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin extended congratulations to more than one thousand folk and traditional artists who performed during the five-day Namma Ooru Thiruvizha festival held across public spaces in Chennai. Stalin praised the artists for keeping indigenous Tamil performing arts vibrant and bringing immense joy to tens of thousands of citizens during the Pongal festive season. He commended parliamentarian Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and the Department of Tourism for orchestrating the widespread cultural celebration.
The Chief Minister observed that folk performances such as Karakattam, Oyilattam, Thappattam, and Therukoothu represent the authentic pulse of regional folklore and egalitarian social history. Under the Dravidian Model governance, the state provides direct financial remuneration, performance stages, and specialized welfare board benefits to traditional artists who were previously neglected. Stalin noted that decentralizing public performances to public parks, beaches, and neighborhoods democratizes access to arts for working-class families.
Stalin affirmed that his administration will continue promoting grassroots folk traditions through dedicated annual festivals and institutional patronage. He reiterated that protecting traditional artists safeguards the living cultural heritage of Tamil soil for future generations. Sustained community engagement keeps folk heritage alive and vibrant.
