To defend federalism and safeguard our educational autonomy, I have urged Hon'ble @dpradhanbjp to immediately withdraw the UGC's draft regulations that trample on State rights.
I have also requested Non-BJP State CMs to join forces with Tamil Nadu and pass Assembly resolutions rejecting these oppressive measures.
We, the States, must unite and reclaim our authority over our institutions.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin formally petitioned Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to immediately withdraw the proposed University Grants Commission draft regulations, describing them as a direct violation of state rights. Emphasizing the constitutional necessity of defending federalism, Stalin warned that the draft norms seek to strip provincial governments of their legitimate authority over state-funded universities. He called upon Chief Ministers of non-BJP ruled states to coordinate joint legislative resistance against central overreach.
Writing to counterpart Chief Ministers across Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Delhi, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh, Stalin urged state legislatures to pass formal resolutions rejecting the measures. He argued that central attempts to control Vice-Chancellor selections violate the spirit of the Concurrent List. Because provincial administrations bear the primary financial burden of higher educational infrastructure, centralized bureaucratic dictation threatens academic autonomy and democratic accountability.
Stalin asserted that states must unite across regional lines to reclaim sovereign control over public institutions. He reaffirmed Tamil Nadu's unwavering commitment to leading collective constitutional resistance, declaring that cooperative federalism cannot survive if central agencies unilaterally dismantle state powers.
