Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated comprehensive renovation works at the ancient Thiruvalluvar Temple in Mylapore, Chennai, marking the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Kanniyakumari Statue of Wisdom. Preserving monuments dedicated to the philosopher-poet reflects the state government's dedication to honoring literary figures who shaped egalitarian Tamil ethos. The project encompasses structural restoration, visitor facilities, and conservation of historic mandapams.
Stalin emphasized that Thiruvalluvar provided universal ethical principles that transcend sectarian divides, offering timeless guidance on social equality, good governance, and human dignity. The Mylapore temple holds immense cultural significance as the traditional birthplace associated with the sage, making its systematic preservation an administrative priority. Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department officials outlined conservation plans designed to protect the temple's architectural integrity without disrupting daily worship traditions.
The Chief Minister linked the restoration initiative to the silver jubilee of the landmark 133-foot Thiruvalluvar statue unveiled by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in 2000. Stalin reiterated that his administration continues to celebrate Dravidian cultural icons through tangible public projects. The renovation schedule ensures modern amenities for pilgrims while sustaining the venerable legacy of Thirukkural across successive generations.
