Editorial context

Denouncing the Union Budget as a meaningless exercise in political rhetoric, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin described the financial presentation as a hollow statement devoid of substance for the state's citizens. In a video address circulated under the #BJPCheatsTN campaign, Stalin emphasized that the budget completely overlooked the urgent economic priorities and developmental aspirations of Tamil Nadu, leaving working-class citizens, farmers, and youth entirely empty-handed.

The Chief Minister noted that while massive budgetary concessions and special economic allocations were showered on states where the ruling party sought to bolster fragile political alliances, Tamil Nadu received negligible capital investment. Stalin stressed that this deliberate neglect punishes a progressive state whose industrial productivity, high tax revenues, and human development indices have sustained the national economy for decades.

Stalin affirmed that financial federalism demands equitable wealth redistribution based on performance and economic contribution, rather than partisan political calculations. He urged the people of Tamil Nadu to recognize the continuous financial betrayal perpetrated by the Union Government. Stalin pledged that his administration will continue demanding fair fiscal treatment and resisting discriminatory central economic policies with unwavering resolve.
