Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin met with representatives of coastal fishing communities, assuring them that his government will take prompt administrative measures to address their long-standing demands and protect their livelihoods. Stalin reiterated that the welfare and maritime safety of Tamil fishermen remain paramount priorities for the state administration, promising continuous institutional backing in the face of occupational hazards and cross-border maritime harassment.
During the interaction, the Chief Minister addressed critical concerns raised by fishing associations, including modernizing fishing harbors, subsidizing marine fuel, expanding social security pensions during seasonal fishing bans, and providing prompt compensation for boat damages. Stalin emphasized that coastal communities form an essential pillar of Tamil Nadu's maritime economy and regional food security.
Stalin also noted that his government continuously pressures the Union Ministry of External Affairs to secure the immediate release of apprehended Tamil fishermen and confiscated trawlers from Sri Lankan naval custody. He affirmed that the state will persist in demanding diplomatic resolutions to protect traditional fishing rights in the Palk Bay. Stalin concluded that his administration will always stand firmly alongside coastal families, ensuring their economic dignity and personal security.
