Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin condemned the Union Government over its chronic mismanagement of passenger train services, highlighting widespread social media footage depicting severe passenger distress. Stalin pointed out that ordinary travelers, daily wage workers, students, and low-income families are enduring hazardous, overcrowded journeys due to arbitrary reductions in unreserved and general second-class coaches across major railway routes.
The Chief Minister criticized the central administration for remaining callous to the plight of common commuters. Instead of augmenting unreserved capacity to accommodate peak commuter demand, railway authorities have progressively reduced general coaches while prioritizing expensive premium trains that remain inaccessible to ordinary working-class citizens. Stalin characterized this persistent neglect as an antipathy toward common passengers who rely on public rail infrastructure.
Stalin called upon the Union Railway Ministry to immediately restore and expand general sleeper and unreserved coaches on all passenger and express train routes. He emphasized that accessible, affordable, and dignified public transit is a basic public necessity, urging central authorities to prioritize citizen convenience and passenger safety over elitist transit restructuring and profit-driven commercial policies. Ensuring equitable public transit remains essential for daily commuters across the country.
