Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched the Mudhalvar Marundhagam initiative, establishing one thousand affordable pharmacy outlets across the state to deliver low-cost prescription medicines to the public. Stalin explained that this program expands upon major flagship healthcare programs, including Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam, Innuyir Kaappoom, Idhayam Kaappoom, and Paadham Paadhukaappoom, cementing the Dravidian Model government's commitment to universal health coverage.

The initiative pursues a dual purpose: lowering household medical expenditures by providing quality generic drugs at subsidized rates, and fostering self-employment among pharmacy graduates. Stalin stated that licensed holders of Bachelor of Pharmacy and Diploma in Pharmacy degrees receive administrative subsidies and institutional backing to operate these outlets as local entrepreneurs.

The Chief Minister affirmed that accessible healthcare remains a fundamental public entitlement rather than a commercial privilege.
