Chief Minister M.K. Stalin congratulated esteemed scholar and former civil servant R. Balakrishnan on his appointment as head of the International Institute of Tamil Studies, expressing profound optimism for the future of archaeological and linguistic research. Stalin celebrated Balakrishnan's unique academic and administrative trajectory, noting that he completed his education through Tamil-medium instruction, cleared the prestigious civil services examination in the Tamil language, and subsequently conducted groundbreaking scholarly research expanding Tamil historical horizons across the subcontinent.
The Chief Minister commended Balakrishnan's pioneering comparative studies connecting ancient Sangam literary traditions and place-names with the Indus Valley Civilization, stating that his rigorous research has elevated Tamil heritage into global archaeological discourse. During the meeting, Balakrishnan presented Stalin with a rare historical gift: a copy of the very first printed edition of the Thirukkural published in 1812, symbolizing the enduring legacy of Tamil classical printing and intellectual scholarship.
Stalin expressed firm confidence that Balakrishnan's leadership will unearth new historical chapters regarding ancient Tamil maritime civilization. He reaffirmed the state government's unwavering support for scientific archaeological research that substantiates the antiquity of Dravidian culture.
