Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued a passionate appeal to the Union government, demanding that central authorities view Tamil Nadu fishermen as Indian citizens deserving full national diplomatic and naval protection. Delivering an address in coastal Nagapattinam, Stalin expressed deep anguish over recurring incidents of Sri Lankan naval forces apprehending Tamil fishermen, confiscating expensive motorized trawlers, and inflicting physical violence upon unarmed workers pursuing traditional livelihood activities in historic Palk Bay waters.
The Chief Minister asserted that when fishermen from northern or western maritime states face external challenges, the national response is swift and robust, questioning why similar protective urgency is absent when Tamil fishermen are targeted. Stalin stressed that marine workers from coastal Tamil Nadu are an integral part of the Indian citizenry, insisting that protecting their constitutional right to life and livelihood is the sovereign responsibility of the central government.
Stalin urged the Prime Minister and the Ministry of External Affairs to pursue permanent diplomatic solutions to end naval hostility and secure the immediate release of detained boats. He affirmed that Tamil Nadu will not remain silent while its fishermen suffer repeated injustices on the high seas.
